How to Select a High-Temperature Calcium Silicate Insulation Board

Summary: A practical selection framework based on temperature, thermal conductivity, density, mechanical strength, thickness, machining and validation requirements.
The correct calcium silicate board is selected from the operating condition, not from one headline temperature.
1. Define the real temperature condition
Separate continuous operating temperature, short-term hot-face exposure and test temperature. These values may lead to different grade choices.
2. Compare thermal conductivity at relevant temperatures
Ambient thermal conductivity alone is not enough for high-temperature design. Use data near the actual operating range whenever available.
3. Balance density and mechanical strength
Lower density usually supports weight reduction and insulation, while higher density can improve compressive and flexural strength. The best grade depends on the structure.
4. Confirm thickness and cold-face target
The board thickness should be evaluated with the desired cold-face temperature, exposure time, joints and surrounding structure.
5. Include machining and validation early
If the part requires CNC machining, holes, chamfers or complex geometry, provide a drawing. For safety-critical projects, confirm the final design through the required test method.
